New York City now has 50 new solar-powered EV charging stations to green its growing fleet of electric vehicles, which stands at about 1,800 EVs.

Envision Solar International, Inc., a producer of unique and sustainable infrastructure products for electric vehicle charging, energy security and outdoor media, recently completed delivery of a $3.3 million, 50-unit purchase order of EV ARCā„¢ units to the City of New York. These were installed as part of a multi-year contract awarded to Envision by NYC in 2017 to supply EV ARCā„¢ products for its rapidly growing fleet of electric vehicles.

The EV ARCā„¢ unitsĀ  — which will provide 100 percent solar-generated electricity for NYC’s growing fleet of electric vehicles — will offer charging to electric vehicles across multiple departments including New York City’s police and fire departments.

Envision’s solar EV charging units are portable, self-contained and off-grid systems with a battery pack that stores solar-generated electricity for future use. Because they are not tied to the electric grid, the solar EV charging stations are, says Envision, easier and quicker to install than traditional, grid-tied solar EV charging stations.

“Envision’s EV ARC product provides the City with the cleanest driving-on-sunshine experience while never generating a construction or utility bill,” said Envision CEO Desmond Wheatley.

Invented and manufactured in California, the EV ARCā„¢ and EV ARCā„¢ HP units fit inside single parking spaces without reducing available parking. According to Envision, the EV ARC generates enough clean solar electricity to power up to 225 miles of EV driving per day. EV ARCā„¢ HP DC fast charging systems provide up to 1,100 miles per day.

The EV ARCā„¢ system’s solar electrical generation is enhanced by EnvisionTrakā„¢ which allows the solar array to follow the sun, generating up to 25 percent more electricity than a fixed array.

The electricity generated by solar panels is stored in the EV ARCā„¢ product’s on-board energy storage for charging day or night, and can provide EV charging and emergency power during grid failure. The EV ARCā„¢ provides Level I, Level II and DC Fast Charging, but, because it requires no trenching, foundations or installation work of any kind, it is deployed in minutes and can be moved to a new location with ease.
