One issue with owning an electric car is the concern about running low on electricity.
So, until gas stations are out-numbered by EV charging stations, PlugShare is coming to the rescue.
PlugShare is an app for the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that allows people to locate charging stations.
However, PlugShare’s not like other EV charge station locators.
Just like other online communities, when you start an account with PlugShare, you create a profile about yourself.
Here’s where PlugShare sets itself apart — on your profile, you let people know if you have an EV outlet at your home, and how much energy it provides. If you opt to share your outlet with other EV drivers, then your shared outlet will appear on the map.
Share a home outlet on PlugShare
Using the app, you can view various locations that have EV plugs or charging stations, as well as PlugShare members’ homes with standard outlets.

Basically, PlugShare creates the opportunity for a unique fuel-sharing community: Sometimes you’ll plug in at a PlugShare “friend’s” place, other times, a PlugShare “friend” will plug in at your place.
According to mapawatt.com, when you first download the app, your home automatically pops up on the map. If you want to disable this, you can simply set your profile to “Unshare Charger.”
In the end, PlugShare sounds like a great way to connect the wider EV community while also empowering EV drivers.
The app is free and you can download it online.
