British Gas gases up EVs with home solar

b-gas-solarBritish Gas is helping people in the UK gas up with solar.

In addition to working to provide EV charging stations for UK consumers who buy or lease a Nissan LEAF, the utility firm is offering installation of solar panels so that consumers can charge their new EV with sun.

Customers will pay from around £1,000 to have a charge point installed, while solar panels start from around £9,000.

Some experts predict that EVs could account for up to 10 percent of all new cars sold in the UK by 2020. This means up to 260,000 UK households could have an EV by then. And, with 700,000 homes expected to have solar panels by 2020, there is great potential for tens, if not hundreds of thousands of UK households to house a solar-charged car.

“From today, Britons can drive an electric car powered by solar energy,” British Gas Managing Director Phil Bentley told ClickGreen.Com recently. “The home of the future is here. A British Gas home with charge points, solar panels and smart meters is now a reality.

Paul Willcox, Managing Director of Nissan Motor (GB), said: “LEAF drivers will be ‘filling up’ with cheaper, cleaner fuel. Teaming up with British Gas means LEAF buyers can be assured of prompt and professional service when having their home ‘filling station’ installed.”
