S. Carolina gets first solar EV charging station

South Carolina recently became the latest state in the U.S. with a solar-powered EV charging station, according to CBS 7News, Spartansburg.

Gary Davis, one of the first Chevy Volt owners in South Carolina, now has both a ChargePoint EV charging station and a solar system to power it, reports 7News.

Davis had the solar EV charging station installed at Nachman, Norwood & Parrott, where he is a partner. Davis told CleanEnergyAuthority.Com that the solar system is large enough to provide 150 percent of the power needed to charge his Volt every day.

The company utilizes any extra solar energy to power the office building and is considering installing solar panels all over the firm with the goal of complete carbon neutrality.

Davis said he’s hopeful that solar-powered car chargers will encourage others to invest in EVs.

ā€œIā€™m hoping that using solar energy to charge it will give other people the idea that you can use solar energy, not just for charging cars, but for their businesses and their homes,ā€ Davis told 7News.

We congratulate Davis on the decision to tap the solar + EV synergy and to spread the word about solar-charged driving — and we hope his is not the lone solar-powered EV charging station in South Carolina for very long.
