CODA’s Czinger unplugs from CEO post

coda-white-shinySANTA MONICA, Calif. — CODA has announced the resignation by mutual consent of Kevin Czinger as Chief Executive Officer, the designation of Steven “Mac” Heller as Interim Chief Executive Officer, and the appointment of Mark Jamieson as Chief Operating Officer.

Czinger will continue his relationship with the company as Senior Strategic Advisor and as a substantial CODA shareholder, noted CODA in a press release.

Heller has served as Co-Chairman of CODA’s Board. He had the following to say about Czinger’s resignation:

“Kevin’s leadership role in developing and overseeing the CODA program was truly a remarkable achievement. Kevin and I have been friends for more than 20 years and I look forward to continuing our friendship and benefiting from his insight as our Senior Strategic Advisor.”

Heller expressed confidence in CODA’s future. “The depth of CODA’s management team combined with the high caliber of its engineering talent will allow CODA to continue in its mission to accelerate the adoption of all-electric vehicles,” he said.

Many analysts have questioned whether CODA, a small start-up company which recently priced its CODA Electric Sedan at a pre-Federal tax credit price of $44,900, can successfully compete with big automakers such as Nissan, which is offering its all-electric LEAF for thousands of dollars less than the CODA sedan.

CODA has said its electric sedan offers features the LEAF does not, including a bigger battery pack, an active liquid temperature management system for the car’s battery, and a longer range and that these advantages will help draw prospective customers away from the LEAF, even at a significantly higher price.
