New solar EV charging canopy online in Michigan

lansing-solar-canopyRenewz sustainable solutions inc. recently collaborated with Eaton and the Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) to construct a solar powered electric vehicle carport at the riverside Lansing City Market. The event was headlined by Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, whose presence signified the importance of this initiative to the Lansing area.

Developed by renewz, the solar charging car port system combines American-made electrical equipment from Eaton and structural components by Giulio Barbieri S.p.A. of Italy.

This innovative solar powered EV charging station will generate enough clean, renewable energy to recharge BWL’s Volt fleet or consumer electric vehicles for 25 years. In addition, it will reduce Lansing’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 115 tons and permit more than 300,000 miles of clean driving.

Cool video captures solar EV station installation

Three and a half years ago when we launched SolarChargedDriving.Com, solar-charged EV canopies were few in number in North America and the pace of their installation was slow.

Today, they’re going up everywhere (see our exclusive map of solar EV charging canopies).

The YouTube video embedded above, which shows the installation of a solar EV charging canopy at Baka Mobile headquarters in Toronto --- and which was posted to YouTube in November 2012, is just one example of the many new solar EV charging stations going up in North America.

Solar EV canopies increasingly visible in U.S.

Okay, so the video above is a bit PR-ie (as in public relations-ie). But it's still worth a look if you're into chronicling and making note of the ever growing number of solar EV charging canopy stations in the United States, including more than a few in highly visible and public places such as where the one highlighted in this YouTube video is: The San Diego Zoo.

By our count -- and we know we do not have all of the solar EV charging canopies/solar-powered EV charging stations in the U.S. on our map -- there are several more of these stations in equally public places.
